What to Include?
To figure out what I would want to include on a shot list, I tried to think about the ways that YouTube videos would include visual elements along the way. After relistening to my podcast on PostCrossing, and recording my own speaking video base, I created and shot pieces along this outline:
Main Recording is me talking about the topics I discussed in the podcast. Camera positioned on me in a video essay- like manner
Title Card Photo: Fade in with audio alike to what was used in the podcast
Screenshot of History section: When I discuss Paulo and how PostCrossing began in the start
Recording of some of my favorite most recent postcards: Insert when I discuss my recent received cards
Screen capture of data on the website: For when I discuss data and what you can see on there in relation to what you’ve sent
Ending Card Photo: For the end when I mirror the audio in the very beginning to round everything out
How’s it going?
Well, I’ve compiled everything I have gathered for my video into this OneDrive folder. I will say, that some of the quality is a little odd unless you adjust the “quality” settings for the video to bump them up, but I figure it will be okay considering they look fine in my export I’ve started editing on.
How’d I do it?
For the main video, as you’ll see in the folder, I have a very long recording of myself that I will cut down significantly. I recorded that video, and the one of the postcards themselves on my phone. The others, I used screenshotting and screen recording on my computer to capture some imagery of the website. For my title and end cards, I created them using Canva. I’m pretty happy with how it all is looking so far.
How I plan to use this…
I’ll be using the main video of myself speaking as the main thread, but overlaying some of the visuals over their designated sections. My speaking audio will remain the same, it is just adding to be more visually interesting. I am going for a very visually stimulating video essay type of thing. While it may take some time to edit all the way, I think it will be worth it.
